BE WARNED ACROSS THE U.S., STATES ARE ON THE RAMPAGE!

Well hello!  We focus on resolving tax issues in Eastern Prince William County and throughout the lower Northern Virginia area.

We’ve become numb to the fact that state and cities report budget deficit or shortfalls with regularity. Unfortunately for the average taxpayer, the states don’t take it lying down.  We live in a time when more and more taxpayers may work in different regions around the country for one employer or even multiple employers, to meet their yearly goals.

Creating an opportunity for a state or jurisdiction to claim that a taxpayer owes their municipality a tax obligation.  They threaten liens if you don’t pay, and hint at worse consequences to come.  We suspect most taxpayers while being apprehensive about their obligation to a state that they’re not domiciled within, will just pay the obligation or make arrangements to pay, to resolve the situation (Ha! Most of the letters even use the language “resolve” with an emphasis on paying.

This is the time you take a step back, and look at the situation, and make sure you determine whether or not you actually owe the taxes being imposed. This is done by verifying the laws and regulations of the jurisdiction regarding tax domicile periods, and activities that trigger tax liabilities, and how you fit into these categories, prior to forking over your hard earned money.  The reality is that the municipality more than likely owes you, than the other way around.

Be sure to adopt all formal language when making your protest or disagreement. Be firm and direct, but respectful of course. State your situation plainly and mention all backup that will be accompanying your disagreement/protest letter, to verify your claim that the municipality is not owed money by you and your household.

If ever you’re feeling overburdened by your tax situation or you’d rather be doing something else with your time, just remember we’re here to help you with all of your tax preparation, resolution/representation needs.  Now and in the future.
